Pennsylvania State Junior Championships Organization

In general players must play in their correct age group. The championships have a slower time control and are played in a 2-day schedule (except for the 8 & Under Open section which is played only on Sunday). For those older players rated under 900 or unrated there are also Sunday-only sections with a faster time control. Players who prefer the slower time control may play up (even though eligible for the 1-day section), but it will be against stronger competition. For those ages 8 and under we only have a 1-day section, so we will allow them to play up to the Ages 9 & 10 Open if they prefer a longer game. In doing so, they will not be eligible for a state age championship.

Prizes

In each section, trophies for 1st to 7th.

In addition to trophies given to the top finishers in each section, the top scorer from Pennsylvania of each age in an Open Section will receive the official state title and an additional engraved plate for their trophy. And in the rare case where they didn’t already win a trophy, we will provide an extra trophy!
