The PSCF is the official state affiliate to the United States Chess Federation (USCF).

It publishes the quarterly newsletter The Pennswoodpusher including crosstables, columns, book reviews, articles, and games. It also publishes each year the PSCF Annual.

It sponsors a variety of state championships. The State Championship alternates between eastern, central, and western sites. The State Scholastic and Quick Chess Championships are traditionally held in March in Carlisle. The State Junior & Senior Championships are held in the fall in Pittsburgh.

The PSCF is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation, and donations are tax-deductible. The PSCF is committed to helping scholastic chess as much as possible, and also to running FIDE Futurities in order to enable players to get FIDE ratings. The PSCF will also help tournament directors advance in certification by offering volunteers chances to be assistant directors as often as possible.

Pennsylvania Scholastic Chess

PA State Scholastic Championships

The 2016 PA State Scholastic Championships, Lancaster Open and PA Quick Championship were held on the weekend of March 4-6, 2016. There were many problems in the running of the event resulting in most rounds starting several hours after their scheduled start times. This caused many problems for those attending and their parents. We are investigating how these problems occurred and how we can ensure they donít happen again. In the short term, we are planning to return the organizational team used from 2012 to 2014 headed by National Tournament Director Boyd Reed as Chief TD and Senior Tournament Director Tom Martinak as Organizer and Registration TD. To ensure that 2017 sees a return to our previous standards we are planning to run the event much as it was previously run in 2014. In future years we will begin to try to build a team and technology that will be able to maintain these standards and move forward to an improved event.
